Sure there have been a couple of scratched or damaged DVDs that have shown up in the mail during that time, but every time, the customer service handling of this inconvenience was first rate with me getting a replacement quickly in the mail and being given bonus rental credits for my troubles.
Let me just say that before you wonder if this is going to turn into a glowing zip.Ca review, the answer is: no, it is not. I have nothing negative to say about the service and what it offers, but I am not writing this to offer up my opinions on the Canadian online dvd rental service provider. Instead, I am going to briefly explain why I have decided to stay with zip.Ca for my dvd rental needs instead of switching to the newly arrived (at least in Canada) Netflix.
Netflix has received a lot of praise in the United States for both the variety of selection offered and the quality of its service. Because of this, when I saw that they were offering a new service for Canadian subscribers I was intrigued enough to visit the netflix site and check out their offer. They are offering Canadians a very appealing $7.99 (Canadian) monthly rate to have access to unlimited downloads to your laptop, desktop, or any supported gaming console with internet streaming capabilities. This seemed like a great deal at first glance, however after some browsing of the titles available I realized that it was not all it was cracked ujp to be.
It turns out that the catalogu of titles available are not the most recent that you might expect to have available to you; in fact, every one of the new television series or new dvd releases that I thought of and tried asearch for was unavailable. Entourage TV series? Not offered. Doctor Who (the recent five year old relaunch of the series )? Not available – but the old Seventies and Eighties series were! Well, how about a recent theatrical release? Clash of the Titans? Not available.
Okay, when offering a very affordable download/streaming service, having some restrictions or lack of library is one thing, but to have such a large dearth of titles available just is not going to cut it when you are entering anew market and attempting to dethrone the established competition.
Suffice to say I think that I will be staying with the Zip.Ca dvd rental service for the foreseeable future…

I am thinking about taking up photography as a hobby and buying the new Canon 550d DSLR. It comes with an 18 megapixel camera and full 1080 HD video. Some of the video clips on Youtube are fantastic. The sensor is basically the same one that comes with the more expensive big brother – the Canon 7D. The problem is that although I can afford the camera at the moment, I can’t really afford any lenses to go with it!
